Your Options


For your convenience, there are several methods available to make payments to the treasurer's office. If you have questions concerning local taxes, due dates, or payments please call (276) 679-7246 for additional information.

Note:
To ensure that credit is given to the proper account, please enclose the return portion of each ticket.

Pay in Person


You may pay in person at our office. We are located at:

Payments by check or money order can be dropped off in the 24-hour drop box located at City Hall.

Pay by Mail


Bills can be paid by check or money order, payable to the order of City of Norton and mailed to:

Pay by Phone


The City of Norton, using Official Payment Corporation, accepts credit card payments over the phone. Major credit cards accepted are: MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover. Just follow these simple instructions:
  1. Dial 1-888-2PAYTAX (1-888-272-9829)
  2. Enter jurisdiction code for the City of Norton (6223)
  3. When prompted, enter information requested.

Fees


There is a fee for this convenience. The fee is paid to Official Payment Corporation. After you enter the amount you wish to pay, the system will tell you the fee and add the fee to the payment. You will have the option to authorize the payment. The system will give you a verbal receipt number. Prior to authentication, you may cancel the transaction if the fee is unacceptable to you.

Credit Card Payments
To pay a city tax or utility bill or permit fee with a credit card, visit this website. Credit cards accepted for bill payments include MasterCard, Discover, American Express, and Visa. There is a fee for this convenience. After you enter the amount you wish to pay, the system will show you the fee and add the fee to the payment. You will have the option to authorize the payment. You may cancel the transaction if the fee is unacceptable to you. The system will display a screen containing a receipt number when your transaction is completed. 

Electronic Check Payments
To pay a city tax or utility bill or permit fee using an electronic check payment, visit this website. Payments will be withdrawn from your checking or savings account. You will need your 9-digit routing number and your account number. Both can be found on your personal checks. See example below. IMPORTANT: When Payment Options appears, click the “Switch to Pay with Check” link and then continue entering your information. There is a fee for this convenience. After you enter the amount you wish to pay, the system will show you the fee and add the fee to the payment. You will have the option to authorize the payment. You may cancel the transaction if the fee is unacceptable to you. The system will display a screen containing a receipt number when your transaction is completed.

The City of Norton also accepts credit card payments over the internet through Official Payments Corporation. Major credit cards accepted are: MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover.

    Automatic Payment Plan 


    The City of Norton Utility Billing Automatic Payment Plan is a free service that allows the city to automatically deduct your utility payments directly from your checking or savings account. Please fill out this form and return to Norton City Hall, 618 Virginia Avenue NW. A blank check or savings account deposit slip with the word "VOID" written on it will also be needed to complete the registration process. Payments will be debited from designated accounts on the 15th of each month. If the 15th is not a business day, accounts will be debited the next business day.
